Channa masala - restaurant style



Chana masala is a simple and delicious choice of  side dish for chapati , parotta , naan . The chick pea chana ( white ) is the best option to make a yummy chana masala grave . 

Chik pea is like other whole grains , pulses has many health benefits . Steaming chik pea and adding to the grave add a special flavour to this recipe .

Ingredients :

  • Chana 
  • Onion - 6
  • Tomato - 8
  • Ginger - 1 inch
  • Garlic - 4-5 strands
  • Cashewnut - 5-6
  • Oil
  • Capsicum - 1 sliced 
  • Garam masala
  • Chilli powder
  • Turmeric powder
  • Coriander leaves
  • Salt

Method of preparation :

Steaming process :

Soak the chik pea the amount you want the previous night . The overnight chik pea soaked well and the size of it becomes double the amount . 

Then , wash the chik pea and transfer into the cooker and add water . Water level should be two inch higher than chik pea . Wait for 7 whistle and then take off from the burner . After the pressure released completely make it cool .

  • In pan heat 2-3 tablespoon of oil . Add 6 chopped onion and saute it well .

  • If the onion turns golden color add 7 chopped tomatoes and cook till it gets soft texture . 
  • Remember : the ratio of onion and tomato is 2:1 . Add extra one or tow tomatoes than onion .
  • Add 5-6 Cashewnut , ginger and garlic .
  • Once the tomato cooked . Turn off the stove .
  • Let it cool for a while .
  • After 10-15 minutes , change the onion tomato mixture to the blender and make a paste by adding a handful of channa and without adding water .
  • The tomato has water content so the paste you blending no need to add water .
  • In pan add 2 tablespoon of oil and add one sliced capsicum . Fry till the color of capsicum changes .
  • Then , add the onion tomato paste to it . Then add the boiled channa and mix it well .
  • Add water according to the quantity you want . 
  • Add , salt to your taste , a pinch of turmeric powder , 1 tablespoon of chilli powder , 1 tablespoon of garam masala .
  • Cook till the raw smell of masala disappears .
  • Finally add few coriander leaves .
  • Serve it hot for chapati , parotta , naan , dosa and idly .

Health tips :

Chik pea is rich in vitamins , minerals and fibre . It lowers cholesterol , helps in digestion and reduce the risk of stroke .
