 Matar paneer recipe is a popular and delicious dish among other paneer recipes . It is made with paneer ( Indian cottage cheese ) and matar ( green peas ) with a onion tomato paste and other spices . It could be a fantastic side dish for chapati , naan , dosa ....

⏱️ Preparation time : 10 for paneer and 20 minutes for green peas .
⏲️ Cooking time : 30 minutes

Ingredients :

  • Paneer - 250 g
  • Green peas - 100 g
  • Onion - 2
  • Tomato - 3-4
  • Ginger - 2 small piece
  • Garlic - 3 cloves
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Cinnamon - 2
  • Fennel seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Curd - 1/2 tablespoon 
  • Cashews - 5
  • Oil
  • Salt 
  • Coriander leaves 

Method of preparation  :

Take a fresh Paneer and cut them into small cubes . Don't make them too small . If you want you can add raw paneer or fried one . To fry paneer , in a non-stick pan add 4 tablespoon of oil or ghee and fry both the sides of paneer till the corners of paneer turn golden . Or else add them raw , for that just cut them into cubes and add directly in the grave .

Take a cup of green peas and boil it well to add to the recipe with paneer.

Method of cooking :

For Matar paneer , first we have prepare a onion tomato base . 
  • In pan heat 2 tablespoon of oil . Once the oil get heated , add 2 chopped onion and saute it for 2 minutes .
  • Then , add 1/2 teaspoon of salt . This is because adding salt helps  the onion ( whatever the vegetable ) to cook quickly .
  • Then , add 5 cashews , 2 small pieces of ginger , 3 cloves of garlic and 3-4 tomatoes and saute till it get a soft texture .
Don't add cashews too much . Then , this taste will be predominant .
  • Once tomato gets it texture , turn off the flame and let the prepared mixture cool .
  • For base , we have to grind the prepared mixture . So , don't grind it while it is hot . Wait till it gets cool . 
  • Then , transfer them into the blender and grind them as a paste . Don't add more water while grinding . Then , you won't get a paste consistency . Add some water to make paste .
  • Then , in pan heat 4-5 tablespoon of oil and add 1 bay leaf , 2 cinnamon , 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds and after 1 minute add the paste you prepared . 
  • To this , add 1 tablespoon of chilli powder , 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder , 1 teaspoon of garam masala , 1 teaspoon of coriander powder  , 1 teaspoon of cumin powder , 1 teaspoon of curd and salt required amount .
You can adjust the chilli powder according to your taste . 
  • If you want you can add some water to this grave . But don't add much .
  • Close the pan with lid and let it cook for 7-8 minutes.
  • After that , add the paneer and green peas which you prepared for this dish .
  • Stir well and wait for 3-4 minutes .
  • Finally add a handful of chopped coriander leaves and turn off the flame .
  • If you want , you can also add fresh cream which will give you much more thick consistency . 
Our matar paneer is ready !

Green peas are seeds which is legume family . It is low in fat and has no cholesterol . Green peas are rich in protein and fibre which maintains your digestive track and helps in chronic diseases such as heart disease , cancer and diabetes .
