Introduction to recipe :

Fish curry ( meen kuzhambu ) is most of our heart touching delicious dish . I had shared this south Indian style fish curry recipe to you all which I had experienced by my grandmother . She used to cook in a mud pot to add much more delicious tatse to it . I too suggest you to cook this recipe in mud pot if you are interested . 

The special of this recipe . This recipe add much more taste if time passes . It can be preserved for 2 days without refrigerator , since this recipe is cooked on tamarind as a base . Try out this spicy and tangy fish curry  ( meen kuzhambu ) and enjoy the day . 

Note : 

⏲️ Preparation time : 10-15 minutes ( to clean the fish ) 
🕰️ Cooking time : 20 - 30 minutes 
🔖Cuisine : South Indian 
🔖 Serving : 3-4 members 

Ingredients : 

  • Fish - 240 g
  • Shallots - 10-15 
  • Tomato - 1 big size
  • Curry leaves 
  • Garlic cloves - 5-6
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Mustard - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chilli powder - 2 tablespoon
  • Coriander powder - 2 tablespoon
  • Tamarind - take one lemon size 
  • Oil 
  • Salt 

It's preparation : 

Clean the fish properly . 

Remember to clean the fish using turmeric powder and salt . 

Tamarind juice - soak a lemon size tamarind in a water for 10-15 minutes . 

Shallots - if you want you can cut these shallots but using it as it is , gives more tatse .

Method of cooking : 

  • In a mud pot , add 2 tablespoon of oil and heat it in a low flame for a minute . 
Tip : using mud pot is south Indian traditional . It adds a unique tatse to the dish and healthy too . If you don't have , you can use your normal utensil for cooking .

  • Once the oil heated , add 1/4 teaspoon of fenuFenug seeds , 1/4 teaspoon of mustard .
 
  • Wait till mustard pop completely . 

  • Then , add garlic cloves and shallots . Saute it well . 

Tips : maintain the flame in medium . 

  • Once the Color of the shallots changes , add few curry leaves and tomato . 

  • The tomato should be cook well till it turns soft . 

  • Then , to this add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder , 1-2 tablespoon chilli powder , 2 tablespoon coriander powder and saute it well .

Tip : you can adjust the spices according to your taste . 

  • Close the mud , let the masalas to cook well till the raw smell disappears . 

  • At this stage , pour the tamarind water which you prepared . 

  • Then , add water as your required for the recipe .

Tip : if you had enough water by adding tamarind water , you don't need to add water additionally . 

  • The curry should boil for 10-15 minutes in a medium flame or high flame . 

  • Now , add the fish one by one gently and close the mud .

Tip : the flame should be medium .

  • After adding the fish , the curry should be cook for 7-8 minutes . 

  • After , 7-8 minutes the fish will be cooked completely . 

  • If not , let it cook for another 5 minutes . But , concentrate , if it leads to over cook then fish will be collapsed . 

  • Turn off the flame , if the fish cooked completely . 

          Our tasty fish curry is ready ! 

health tips : 

Your diet should contain a fish at least two times per week . This is so , because , fish has omega-3 fatty acids , vitamins and minerals . Along with this , it contains saturated fat content , so it will help to maintain your heart health .
