Mutton gravy is one of our delicious and spicy curry in non-veg which to be served for chapati , parotta , rice , dosa and idly . It is to be prepared with all spices and the well cooked mutton gives such a flavour and a unique taste to it . 

The taste of mutton gives a unique flavour in the gravy which makes us mouth watering . Let me help you to cook such a delicious recipe at home in easy steps .

Ingredients :


  • Mutton - 3/4 kg or 1 kg
  • Bay leaf - 2
  • Cinnamon - 4
  • Cardoman - 4
  • Cloves - 4
  • Fennel seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion - 7
  • Tomato - 5
  • Capsicum - 1
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2-3 tablespoon
  • Turmeric  - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teasoon
  • Mutton masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
  • Cashewnut - 5-6 
  • Salt - according to your taste
  • Coriander leaves
  • Oil

It's preparation :

Finely chop the onion ( 4 ) and tomato ( 2 ) .
 
Then , chop capsicum into small pieces .

Make the onion tomato base . In a blender add 3 onions ,  3 tomatoes , 5-6 cashews and 1/2 teaspoon of fennel seeds . Grind them as a fine paste without adding water . ( Both onion and tomato has water content , so there is no need for water while grinding ) .

Seperately , prepare ginger garlic paste . 

Method of cooking : 

  • Clean the mutton and start to boil it in hot water by adding a tablespoon of turmeric powder and half a tablespoon of salt .

  • Let the meat to cook for 25-35 minutes . If you want to cook the meat in pressure cooker leave it for 7-8 whistle according to the type of meat .

( Meat should be 3/4 the cooked )

  • In a pan , add 6 tablespoon of oil . Once the oil heated , add bay leaf , cinnamon , cardamom ,  cloves ( measurements given above in the ingredients column ) and 1/2 teaspoon of fennel seeds . 

Tip : flame should be in medium or low 

  • After 2 minutes , add 4 chopped onions and capsicum , saute it well.

  • Once the onion turns to golden Color , add 2 tablespoon of ginger garlic paste which you prepared .

  • After 2 minutes , add 2 finely chopped tomato and cook till it gets a soft texture . 


  • Then , add the cooked meat by filtering the water . Cook for 5 minutes . Stir once well .

  • Then , add all masalas . Turmeric, chilli , coriander powder , garam , mutton masala and salt - ( measurement given above in ingredients column ) 

( Adjust masalas according to the taste ) 
( Don't add too much spices , then this flavour become predominant ) 

  • Cook till the raw smell disappears .

  • Add water according to the quantity you want . ( But don't add excess , then the thick consistency will be lost ) .


  • While water starts boiling add coriander leaves . Stir once well . 

  • And , finally check the meat that is cooked completely and then turn off the stove .

Health tips :

Mutton is rich in protein , vitamins and minerals . It is good for muscle growth and it's maintenance , anemia , bone strength . 

Don't worry about fat . It has only good fat which helps in many health issues .
