Introduction to Aloo Bonda :

Potato is also known as aloo . So that , this recipe is known as aalu Bonda . The vegetable potato itself most of us favourite . Whatever the recipe in that makes us mouth watering . That too , Bonda is much more favourite in rainy seasons . Beyond season , it is a very yummy and delicious snack which suits our mood to enjoy .

Ingredients with measurements :

For stuffing : 
  • Potato - 4 
  • Onion - 1
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Mustard - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ginger 
  • Curry leaves 
  • Oil 
  • Salt - required amount
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida - a pinch 
For batter :
  • Chickpea powder - 1 cup
  • Rice flour - 1/4 cup
  • Chilli powder - 1-2 teaspoon
  • Salt - required amount
The above measurements is for 2-3 members . If you want more than that increase the the amount of ingredients . Potato as count 6 - 7 , chickpea powder as 2 cup , chilli powder as 3 tablespoon and required of salt will differ . 

Method of preparation and cooking :


Preparation for aloo stuffing :
  • Wash the potatoes and boil them in a fresh water . Once the potato cooked well . Let it cool for 10 - 15 minutes or else using cold water cool it . 

  • Then , peel the skin of it and smash it well .

  • Chop the onion , coriander lraves and green chilli finely . 

Cooking the stuff : 

  • In a pan , add 2-3 tablespoon of oil . Wait till oil gets heat . 
Tip : don't over heat and maintain the flame in low or medium . 

  • To this add , 1/2 teaspoon of mustard , 1)2 teaspoon of cumin , curry leaves , 1/2 teaspoon of grated ginger , 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder and saute it once .

  • After 2 minutes , add finely chopped onion and saute it . 

  • Once the onion turn to golden , add the smashed potatoes , required amount of salt  and saute it .

  • At this stage , add a pinch of asafoetida and stir once . 

  • Cook this on medium flame for 5 - 10 minutes . 

  • Finally , add a handful of chopped coriander leaves , stir once well and turn off the flame .
  Our stuffing for Bonda is ready !

Batter preparation : 

  • In a mixing bowl , add 1 cup of chickpea powder , 1/4 cup rice flour , 1-2 teaspoon of chilli powder and required amount of salt .

  • Mix altogether well . 

  • Then , add water gradually and mix .
Tip : don't add water at a time . Add , gradually and mix . The consistency should be like batter . It should not be too thick or watery . 

Preparation of Bonda : 

  • Divide the potato stuff into small balls . 
Tip : you can make the balls according to your required size . 
  • In a frying pan , add the required amount of oil to fry . 

  • Dip the balls on the prepared batter and slowly place in the oil . 

  • Likewise , dip 3-4 balls in the batter and place in the oil . 

  • In a medium flame , fry the balls till it turns golden brown . 

  • Likewise , fry all the balls you have . 

         Our potato ( aloo ) Bonda is ready ! 

  • Enjoy the hot potato Bonda with coconut chutney or with your favourite sauce . 

Chutney preparation : 

  • Add 3/4th cup of grated coconut to the blender jar . 

  • To this add 2-3 tablespoon of roasted gram , 2-3 green chillies , 1 or 2 strands of garlic and required amount of salt . 

  • First grind them as a powder and then add 1/2 cup of water . Grind it well as a paste . 
Tip : You can adjust the salt , water according to the consistency you want . 
  • Then , transfer it to the separate bowl .

  • In a pan , add 2 tablespoon of oil and add 1/2 teaspoon of mustard , 1/2 teaspoon of cumin and few curry leaves .

  • Roast it well in a low flame and pour this tempering to the prepared chutney .

Our coconut chutney for Bonda is ready ! 

Health tips : 

Potatoes are the good source of vitamins and minerals and you can add in your weight loss diet which will be helpful to reduce your weight . It is also rich in fiber . But reduce it's consumption as a fried one . Take a low servings of potatoes it your diet . Over consumption leads to health risk for the people who are above 40 .
