Simple sponge cake recipe with egg

Introduction to the recipe : 


Sponge cake is a soft plain light cake which is a base for all types of cake means a base for all decor cakes . This sponge cake is made with egg , maida , butter and sugar as a main ingredients . 

Ingredients :


  • Egg - 4
  • Butter - 1/4 cup
  • Sugar - 3/4 cup 
  • Curd  - 1/2 cup 
  • Maida - 1.5 cup 
  • Baking soda - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vanilla extract - 1 tablespoon

Note : 


⏲️ Preparation time : 20 minutes
🕰️ Baking time : In cooker : 30-40 minutes
                             Cake In oven : 30 minutes 
⏱️ Pre heating time : for oven : 350 F
                                      For cooker : 10 minutes

Pre - heating : 


For cooker : 
  • In a cooker , add a layer of salt at the base . 

  • Place the stand above the salt and plate above the stand . 

  • Pre heat the cooker for 10 minutes in a medium flame . 

For oven : ( cake in oven ) 

Pre heat the oven for 350 F / 170 C . 

Batter preparation : 


  • First , beat the eggs well . Add 4 eggs in a mixing bowl and start to beat with a electric beater . 

  • Beat for 5-7 minutes , till it becomes fluffy and get its peak . 

  • After beating the egg for 5-7 minutes , turn off the beater and add 1/2 cup of unsalted melted butter ( should not be hot ) . 

  • To this add , 3/4 cup of powdered sugar and again beat well for another 5 minutes in a electric beater . 

  • Add , 1/2 cup of curd and beat for 2-3 minutes . 

  • Then , add 1.5 cups of maida , 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder .

  • Mix well gently .

  • Mix untill no lumps are there . 

  • Then , add 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract and mix . 

  • Gently mix . 

Tip : Remember there should be no lumps .

Tip : don't mix strong or harsh . 

Prepare the pan :

  • Take 6 inch or 8 inch pan according to the amount of batter you prepared . If you follow the measurements which I mentioned above , 6 inch pan is enough . 

  • If you add extra quantity of butter , curd , maida and egg , 8 inch will be perfect for baking . 

  • Grease the pan with butter on all sides and place the butter paper at the base . 

  • Transfer the batter which you prepared in the greased pan . 

  • After transferring , tap the pan gently to remove the lumps formed inside the batter.  

Baking : 


  • Place the baking pan , either in a cooker or oven . 


Cake in oven : 

  • Bake the cake in cooker for 30-40 minutes and in oven 350 F / 170 C for 30 minutes . 

Tip : don't add cooker whistle .

  • After the respective timing ends , check whether the cake is baked completely .

  • Take off from the flame or oven . 

  • Turn the pan upside down and tap it gently.

  • The cake will be removed gently from the pan . 

  • Plate it and garnish it with nuts . 

Overview : 


  • In a mixing bowl , add 4 eggs , 1/4 cup of butter , 3/4 cup of powdered sugar , 1/2 cup of curd and beat it with electric beater .

  • Beat for 7-8 minutes . 

  • Then , add 1.5 cup of maida , 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda , 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract .

  • Mix altogether well without any lumps . 

  • Transfer it into the baking pan and bake for 30 - 40 minutes in a cooker and 350F in a oven . 

Cooking tips : 

 
Why maida for baking recipes ? 

Maida is used to for cakes , cookies , pie and all desserts . The protein content in maida flour is low . So , it is much helpful to make a soft tender cakes . Instead of maida , you can also use cake flour which you can buy in grocery shop .
